The Time To Talk Is Now
If you're feeling emotions reading this, we want you to know we are too. From Sesame Street to Disney, and from Ms. Rachel to Cocomelon, children's mainstream media is showing preschoolers content that does not align with the Bible. We cannot remain silent.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)
For parents:
The most important thing to remember is that God defines sin differently than the world.
To God: Sin (hamartia) means missing the mark. And because we aren't perfect, we have missed it. None of us are good, no not one. But praise God, He is good! He has become our righteousness.
To the World: Sin means you are only a bad person if you hurt other people. Because there is no God to them, they get to make up their own version of being a good person. And in our post-modern world, you get to define right or wrong so long as you don't hurt others. You can choose to be transexual, you can choose be a furry - follow your heart, any desire for yourself is yours!
Now when we read Romans 1:26-27 for God's Wrath on Unrighteousness, we can better understand how a Christian vs. the World responds to what God says is sin:
"For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error."
A Christian believes being called out on sin is a humble acknowledgement that they are always in need of Jesus' saving grace
A Non-Christian believes being called out on sin is an offensive acknowledgement that they are a bad person
For preschoolers:
The good news is that children only need simple words to understand. Keep it short and sweet. If they ask you, you can tell them:
"In the beginning, God made Adam and Eve, man and woman for each other. Boys grow up to marry girls, and that is how God designed it. Some people may tell you boys marry boys (or girls marry girls), but they don't trust in God. They are confused."
Conclusion
A Christian knows they are not a good person. A non-Christian doesn't know they are not a good person. This is why God tells us we cannot love the world - there is a fundamental difference that makes both incompatible with each other. At WonderfulWorks, we choose God's side, and uphold the Bible as the inerrant truth of God's Word.
